The amount of revegetation required for restoration projects varies widely. At many sites, removal of disturbance followed by control of exotics and erosion may potentially “release” the native seedbank and allow natural revegetation. Other sites may require soil amendments such as nutrients or mycorrhizal inoculum to assist the natural regrowth of a degraded community. The most damaged sites may require comprehensive soil treatments along with extensive seeding and live planting. Seeding and live planting may also be desired to accelerate the natural revegetation process, ensure that desirable plants become reestablished, or to provide the immediate presence of larger vegetation that provide shade, cover, and aesthetic value. Southwest Restoration Services can assess the potential of a site for natural revegetation and, if necessary, design a soil treatment and revegetation plan. We employ seeding and planting techniques appropriate to the species and site conditions. Revegetation designs may also include various slow-release watering devices to aid in initial establishment. If longer-term watering is necessary we work with irrigation specialists to design cost-effective, efficient irrigation systems. |
