A widespread obstacle to successful restoration in the Southwest is the presence of noxious plant species. Our biologists design control measures appropriate to the species involved and extent of infestation. Our specialty is the elimination and control of tamarisk (Tamarix ramosissima) and Russian olive (Elaeagnus angustifolia), two invasive woody species that have invaded large areas of riparian habitat in the Southwest. We have the ability to implement control using a variety of approaches ranging from hand eradication, mowing, root ripping, and chemical treatment. It is also possible to incorporate prolonged flooding, prescribed fire, or controlled grazing into weed control programs. Our goal is to utilize the assets and potentials of a site to produce an integrated control program that is the most effective, economical, and environmentally sound. |
